About Our Rabbi

Rabbi Rachel Dvash Schoenfeld (Rabbi Rachel) is CBTBI’s spiritual leader. She brings spiritual, intellectual and pastoral guidance to our congregation. Rabbi Rachel shares warmth and a love of Judaism with CBTBI. She is available to meet the pastoral and lifecycle needs of our congregation.

Rabbi Rachel lives in Collingwood, with her husband Dan, and two young daughters, Fay and Nora.  She loves coffee (even instant) and exploring South Jersey. Rabbi Rachel is a soferet (Torah scribe) and trained mediator. She is passionate about making the world a better place through kehillah (community), tikkun olam (world repair) and tzedakah (sharing resources).

Rabbi Rachel was ordained by the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College in 2005.  Since then, she has served congregations including most recently Shir Hadash, in Newton, MA.  She has also been an education director at a humanist congregation, Kahal Braira, and a campus rabbi at Hampshire College.

Rabbi Rachel began as CBTBI’s rabbi in January 2019, and since then, one of her goals has been to get to know all CBTBI members and prospective members.  Reach out – she would love to get to know you.  You can reach Rabbi Rachel at info@cbtbi.org, or at 856-589-6550 x4.

Here to Help

We are here to answer any questions you may have about membership. We are happy to work with you and welcome you as a part of our community. Please contact us for more information.

Deeply Committed

We are committed to nurturing a welcoming environment for our synagogue community. We welcome all who are striving to learn more about Judaism and spirituality.

Affordable Dues

Our synagogue has one of the most affordable due structures in South Jersey, but we realize that not everyone can afford the full membership fee. We offer financial assistance to members who demonstrate need.

A Singular Purpose

The core purpose of a synagogue community is to provide a space for religious services and observances. Members come together for regular prayer services on Fridays and Saturdays, and special holiday celebrations. The CBTBI community is led by a rabbi, who acts as the spiritual leader, guiding the congregation in matters of faith, providing teachings, and offering pastoral care and support. CBTBI serves as a spiritual and social anchor for its members, providing a sense of identity, purpose, and belonging within the larger Jewish tradition.
